Skating

Over the Christmas holiday Bruce was wanting to get Luke up on skates. So we went and bit the bullet and bought Luke hockey skates and a helmet. We tried to get him second hand skates but we couldn't find any in his size, so we ended up buying him new ones. Over the holidays there were many free skates put on by Tim Hortons, so Bruce took Luke to a few free skates to teach him how to skate. One thing Bruce learned really fast was that Luke loved to fall down and not get up, he also learned that Luke loves the gates on the rink and playing with the handles, another thing with a few of the rinks was that we could not bring in our plastic lawn chair for Luke to push around, so Bruce had to bend over the entire time with Luke and found this pretty tiring.

So Bruce and I were talking and decided to see if we could place Luke in the preschool learn to skate program with our local Can Skate program here in LaSalle. I made a few phone calls and a spot had opened up for Luke to enter the skating program, mid way through the year. This skating program started in September of 2007, so many of the kids were a little more advanced in their skating skills then Luke.
Luke has been going to to the preschool learm to skate program for 4 weeks now and he really seems to be enjoying it, he has learned to get up off the ice all by himself (however he still has a love for falling down for some reason)and he can skate across the entire rink all by himself. He has been doing a great job so far.

Luke skates every Monday night here at our local rink, which is at the end of our street, so that is a bonus as well. Soon the arena will be moving further away but for now it is great to have it so close.
