My first Turkey

Today I made my first turkey ever for our American thanksgiving. I have to tell you I had no intention of preparing this meal at all. I was very fearful of cooking a turkey for some reason, don't ask me why. I am still not too sure, However, Bruce came home with a 13 Pound turkey from Walmart in Michigan and said he would like a turkey dinner this weekend. So I had no choice but to learn how to cook a bird, they call a turkey. We got our direction from my Mom in Florida and from the Internet. Everything seemed to go well and we took pictures of the process of cooking our first turkey.

Allison and Grandma Gailitis waiting to go to church while I washed the turkey out.

Opening the turkey from the packaging.

Can you guess what this is? This is my first glance and experience of pulling out the turkey's neck. It was very interesting.

This is me kissing the bird and wishing it well in the oven.

Drying the turkey after a good salt bath to get all clean.

The finished product after 5 hours in the oven and 4 basting's. It smelled so good I just wanted to lick it.

Me and my first cooked turkey.

Bruce was the one who carved the bird with our electric knife, we had never used before.

MMmmmmmm Turkey!

My brother came over and spent the afternoon with us and had some turkey as well. We had a great family dinner together and the turkey was wonderful and very moist. We also had sweet potatoes, white potatoes, corn, cauliflower with cheese and yummy gravy. I will attempt stuffing the next time around when I am better prepared for this meal.

Grandpa Gailitis with Luke and Allison after a very yummy and filling meal.

After our evening turkey meal, it decided to snow,. It was out first snowfall of the year and the first time my brother's new car had seen snow on it. So we had to take a picture. It did not snow for very long though.

Setting up our Christmas tree

This weekend was the American Thanksgiving. Seeing that Bruce works in the USA he had the past 4 days off work. It was so nice to have him home and spennd time with him. Bruce's parents drove down from Toronto to spend this long weekend with our family.
Yesterday we all put up our Christmas tree together. There is always the task of pulling the tree from our storage unit. This can take quite awhile, seeing that the Christmas tree and decorations can get placed way in the back of our storage unit. Well, we finally found our tree through all the baby clothes boxes we have in there. I decided that I had to pull out all the baby clothes boxes, seeing that we are due in March 2008. Oh by the way ......we found out we are having a baby boy.
So once I was done with all the boxes the tree finally went up. Luke and Allison had a great time putting up their Ernie and Bert ornaments on the tree.

Quality time with Daddy

The kids love to spend time with Daddy. Bruce has had to work some long hours the past little while so Luke and Allison love the time they get to spend with their Daddy. Here they are playing a game with Daddy they call " Pile On" this is where they all pile on top of Daddy. Then there here is another picture of Luke, Allison and Daddy last Sunday reading a book together before church.

Chuck E Cheese for Allison

On November 16th which is Allison's 2nd birthday we took her to Chuck E Cheese for her big day! Here are some pictures from her time there! She has a great time.

Allison opening her present from Mom, Dad and Luke. She got some stuffed animals, a Dora sippy cup and a Dora bowl.

Happy 2nd Birthday Allison

I got this idea from my friend Jobina who has a daughter that turned 3 today.
Today 2 years ago Allison Carolyn Gailitis came into this world at around 12:00noon. I will never forget when I first went into labour around 5am in the morning and Bruce rushed me to the car and we went to pick up my Doula Crystal Gray. Now we had Allison in the USA so we had to cross the boarder when I was in labour. When it was our turn to talk to the boarder guard he wanted to know the purpose of our trip and then I yelled in pain from a contraction. I was hoping he got the point, but NO! What does he want to do?........He says " Please open your trunk!" Oh my word, they were searching our car and I was in labour. Bruce and I could not believe it! Finally they let us through.
Allison was a big baby she weighed 9lbs.08oz. She was a beautiful healthly little girl and Bruce and I fell in love with her right away. I still can't believe I pushed her out, with Luke I had a C-section. You can see from my facial expression I am tired and shocked all at the same time holding Allison for the first time.

After awhile I just loved spending time with my little girl.Bruce took some great shots of her.

The picture aobve is of Allison when she is 1 years old. She had grown so much in the past year. She loves to sing songs and listen to music. I wonder if she will play an instrument one day? I always wonder what will happen in the next year with our little 2 year old. Only the Lord knows and I am grateful for that. Thank you Lord for our little Allison and giving her 2 years of life.
Happy Birthday Allison!

Allison will be "2" tomorrow

My grandparents came over to visit us this afternoon, and to give Allison a present for her birthday tomorrow. So this is Allison and Luke's Great Grandma and Grandpa. Allison received a new dolly and a new pair of PJ's from my grandparents for her 2nd birthday. She was thrilled with both of them. The dolly talks and sings and her PJ's have piglet on them and they are super soft. Allison thinks her new PJ's are a blanket I think....or maybe a hat and scarf. She ran around with them all afternoon and snuugled with them. The best part was when she placed the bottoms of the PJ's on head and wore them as a hat. Here is a picture of Allison with her new birthday hat and her new dolly.
Happy Birthday Allison!

"C" is for Cookie

Last week I was cleaning our bottom spare room and I came across an old jewelry box of mine from when I was a kid. I had not look in it for years. I opened it up and found a gold chain necklace my Great Aunt had given me a long time ago. On this necklace there is a pedant hanging off if with the letter C for my first name. To tell you the truth I never really wore it before because I was always afraid I would break it. Now I am 31 years old and I figured I am old enough to wear this necklace. So I have been wearing it every day for the past week.
Luke has noticed that I have been wearing this and he wanted to know what it was. I explained to him that it is a gold necklace with the letter C on it. When Luke heard this he was quick to tell me that the "C" on my necklace stood for Cookie. Guess where he got that from? Sesame Street and Cookie Monster. "C" is for cookie!
So from there Luke told me I was a cookie. Lovely! So I sat Luke down and asked him what my name was and he said Mommy.....so I proceeded to ask him what is Mommy's real name and he said Carolyn, but I call you Mommy.
Then he understood why there was a "C" on my necklace but every once in awhile he tells me the "C" stands for cookies! So I am Luke's little cookie. I guess it could be worse.

My old house in White Rock, BC

My sister and brother in law where in British Columbia a few weekends ago for a friends wedding. They were able to visit with my cousins Carol and Greg in White Rock for a day. Carol and Greg drove Katherine and Jon all over the place and one of their stops was by my old house where I use to live in White Rock.
Now I do not remember this house that well as I moved to Ontario with my parents when I was 2.5 years old. However, I am sure my parents will appreicate this photo more then I. This is for you Mom and Dad!
